GEORGE CREESE
GRAPHIC DESIGN

BACK TO WORK

A publication based on an article investigating the black market for cadavers — dead bodies for use in the lab and medical training.

I set myself certain limitations with this book — I would have no illustrations of blood and gore, but still communicate a traumatic, bloody topic. I did this using the arresting block red paper, printing onto it with black ink. Illustrations were screen-printed renders of old Dutch still life paintings; still life prompting for me ideas of death, as well as images of dead animals and torn fruit, painted very realistically in the Dutch Old Master style providing images of gore.

The body copy remains simple in a strict grid as to not complicate the book, but has very large  paragraph breaks, to allude to the feeling of body
parts missing.
